Berean In-Depth Study
Psalms in the New Testament
A Berean In-Depth topical study — 12 lessons · How Israel's Songs Lead Us to Jesus
The apostles did not treat Jesus as an interruption in the biblical story. They preached Him as the fulfillment of Israel's hopes, promises, patterns, and worship — and the book they reached for more than any other was the Psalms. This twelve-lesson study takes up the psalms the New Testament quotes most and reads each one twice: first in its own setting, among the people who first sang it, and then through the use the apostles made of it.
Psalm 22 takes the class to the cross, Psalm 16 to the empty tomb, Psalm 110 to the throne of heaven, and Psalm 118 to the living cornerstone on which the church is built. Along the way the study teaches the difference between direct prophecy and pattern, and how the New Testament writers handled the Scriptures they had. It works well for an adult Bible class or for independent study through a quarter.
Teachers: Each lesson has a matching Leader's Guide with goals, sensitive topics, a suggested class schedule, discussion priorities, and substantive notes on the key questions.
