About Michael Jones
Forty years in the service of the gospel.
Michael Jones has preached the gospel in churches of Christ for more than forty years. He currently serves with the Orange View church of Christ in Orange County, California — a congregation whose aim, as its website name attests, is simply to follow the Bible as the all-sufficient pattern for faith and practice.
Having pursued graduate studies at Fuller Theological Seminary, Michael has spent decades teaching God's word in adult Bible classes, training teachers and preachers, and writing the kind of materials that aim to set forth plainly what the Scriptures themselves teach — without addition, without subtraction.
Bi-Vocational Ministry
Like the apostle Paul, who labored as a tentmaker so that he might “present the gospel free of charge” (1 Corinthians 9:18, ESV), Michael is bi-vocational. Alongside his work with the local congregation he serves the United States in two demanding professional roles: as a Reserve Component Judge Advocate General's Corps officer with the U.S. Army, and as an attorney with the United States Department of Justice.
International Ministry
The Lord has used those vocations as an unusual platform for the spread of the gospel. Michael has had the opportunity to preach Christ, teach Bible classes, and share the truth in person in Russia, Kosovo, Kuwait, Jordan, and other parts of the Middle East — opportunities that often arise from a path most preachers will never walk, and for which he gives the Lord all glory.
Languages have long been a personal hobby of Michael's, and the Lord has turned that study to good use for the gospel. His work in Arabic and Farsi has opened doors to share Christ in the Middle East — including time laboring alongside the brethren of the Lord's church in Kuwait and Jordan — and years earlier his study of Russian opened the same door in the Soviet Union during the 1980s. Though much of that direct work in country is now in the past, his ministry to Arabic- and Farsi-speaking souls continues today through remote Bible studies and email correspondence with brothers, sisters, and seekers scattered across the Middle East — quiet, patient work that often bears its fruit out of public view.
Writing, Software, and the Wider Church
Beyond the Bible studies offered freely on this site, Michael operates Still Standing Studios, where he develops Christian software and applications intended to encourage faithful daily walking with the Lord. A number of his sermons are also archived on SermonCentral.com, where preachers around the world have access to them.
Family
Michael has been married since 1992. His wife's steadfast support of his ministry — through every move, every late night of study, and every trip overseas — has been an immeasurable gift, and her partnership is woven quietly through everything offered on this site. They have two adult children, and make their home in Orange County, California.
